I’m so ready for autumn weather!! I love layering, textural fabrics, and the rich colors that come with the change in seasons. Anyone else looking forward to it as well? As part of this, I’m taking stock of my wardrobe which honestly hasn’t seen much action in the past few years because of the pandemic (not leaving the house + body changes) and then pregnancy, so I’m assessing where I may need to make some exchanges / replacements or additions, depending on the situation.
These are the pant styles that I always gravitate toward as the temperatures drop and that I love to wear throughout the fall so I thought I’d share some favorite finds from my shopping adventure!
For the record, these pants can be worn all throughout the cooler seasons BUT I find that stylistically they are the cutest when worn in autumn when the days are crisp, but not downright freezing. This is especially true for styles that are distressed or a bit cropped and show some ankle because in the dead of winter no one wants their skin exposed to the elements!
Let’s go shopping!

Denim
You know that I love a pair of skinny jeans. I’m a tried-and-true Millennial and skinny jeans are just my comfort zone, however, I think that a pair of slim straight or true straight leg jeans are so cute in the transitional seasons (both spring and fall!). And I adore a little distressing or a raw hem to add some interest to an outfit. Great for wearing with either flats or with boots / booties! Here are a few styles and washes that I either own or am loving right now:

Ponte
The best option for travel, hands-down. They’re comfortable like a legging, but more polished and can be dressed up or down. The fabric is wrinkle-resistant (again, great for travel / packing!) and they’re overall just great pants. You can wear them with strappy heels, pumps, flats, loafers, boots or booties… they’re super versatile and an honest staple in any woman’s wardrobe. I’ve been on the hunt for a replacement for mine because I’ve just completely worn them out — these are the ones that have made my list:

Corduroy
I am a HUGE fan of corduroy in the fall. It just feels like the equivalent of the season in a fabric, you know? You can find corduroy in so many different colors, but I am a purist and prefer the classic caramel color. That being said, I think that all of the autumn colors (like deep chocolate, burgundy, and olive green) would be so fun for the season if those fit your style and wardrobe better! My picks can be found below:

PATTERNED
Autumn is such a perfect time for prints, specifically classic ones like herringbone, houndstooth and plaid! They add a bit of interest to your outfits without having to put in a lot of effort. I also love gingham in a more autumnal color palette — shades of brown really pull the print into fall.
Bonus points if you find a pair of pants made with wool / tweed to help keep your legs warm as the temperatures drop. My paperbag-waisted pair is Abercrombie from a few years ago (love them!), but I’ve linked some cute options that are available now:

Faux Leather
I don’t know what it is but leather just gives any outfit that “cool” factor. I’m not super edgy so I don’t gravitate toward black leather very often because it can feel a bit harsh against the rest of my wardrobe, but I will make the occasional exception when it feels right. And because we’re girlies-against-animal-cruelty I’m linking only faux leather options here:

Faux Suede
The texture interest that suede gives to an outfit is just so decadent; I absolutely love it. This is another fabric that will be perfect to carry into winter — it pairs so beautifully with cozy knits and I love the contrast with a smooth leather shoe. My favorite faux suede options are linked below:

I hope you’re getting as excited about autumn as I am! It’s too short a season and I am trying my best to extend it for as long as possible!! I couldn’t wait and decorated our house for fall before the end of August. (Yes, I’m that person… but I won’t decorate too early for Christmas — we have to celebrate Thanksgiving first!)
If you’re already set in the pants department I wrote a post about my favorite shoe styles for fall; forever classics! And in case you happen to be shopping for fall clothes for a toddler, I did a little roundup of autumn baby girl options here (so many cute pieces to mix-and-match and wear both now and later)!
Happy shopping, friends!
Sending hugs —
xx, Natalie
