The one thing I ask for from my family every Mother’s Day is a photoshoot, whether that’s a mini or a full session. It’s one of three guaranteed photoshoots that we have annually: (1) for Mother’s Day, (2) for the girls’ birthdays in June to capture them each year, and (3) for holiday cards. I cherish the photos so much and they’re the only gifts I really want.

I love documenting our family in photos so it’s really nice to actually be IN them (taken by a professional 😉). It’s a lot of work to get ready for these shoots, but the end result is always sooo worth all of the effort!
Our photographer also blogged about this year’s mini spring sessions here if you’d like to see more examples of her work (and some family outfit inspiration!).

Our photographer Brittany held an afternoon of mini sessions at the Washington Park Arboretum. The plants are so well curated at this local botanical garden — there’s always something beautiful in bloom! In the spring there are an abundance of cherry trees, tulip magnolias, rhododendron and azaleas.
I love flowers so this is always a fun backdrop for family photo sessions… we’ve had my first maternity shoot taken here as well as a Mommy & Me spring session two years ago (last year’s annual Mommy & Me session was combined with my second maternity shoot at a peony farm). If you live in the Seattle area, I highly recommend this garden for outdoor photo sessions!

In typical Seattle spring fashion, the weather had been super rainy until the day of our session so the ground was super muddy. Our photographers are so smart and experienced — they brought a leather mat for their clients to sit on so that we could capture some of the beautiful low flowering bushes with our littles without getting absolutely filthy.

Brittany is truly magical — I’m always so impressed that she can manage to get such great photos with the chaos going on. I will adore these images forever!

Outfit Details
Chloe is wearing a ruffle romper in “mauve” from Rylee & Cru that we bought for her while I was still pregnant so it’s from a past season, a Dotty cardigan from Jamie Kay, her gold shoes are by Jamie Kay and are a hand-me-down from her big sister, and her velvet bow headband is a favorite from Etsy!
Sophie is wearing the Elodie dress in “Selena Blush” by Jamie Kay, a cardigan in “Ash Rose Marle” by Jamie Kay and her fisherman sandals are by Pehr. Her hair bow can be found on Etsy (she is wearing the 3.25” Schoolgirl Bow style).
My dress is the Santiago 3 Maxi in Dot Stripe Ivory from Emerson Fry paired with my trusty J.Crew Menorca slingback sandals from a past season.

I love ALL of the photos, but this one may be my favorite!
Thanks for humoring me and allowing me to share these photos with you!
What is your favorite thing to receive on Mother’s Day? Do you like to do things with your family, request a day alone to reset and recharge, or is it something tangible that you can enjoy all year long? Let me know in the comments!
Sending hugs —
xx, Natalie
