We recently met with our beloved family (everything?) photographer Brittany at a local peony farm in Enumclaw, WA for our maternity session. For my maternity photos when I was pregnant with Sophie I chose to do a solo session, but for this pregnancy I thought it would be fun to capture this time as a family!
Peonies have been my favorite flower for as long as I can remember; they’re a major part of the reason why I hoped to have a June wedding (when peonies are basically guaranteed to be in-season) and if you ask Brittany she’ll confirm that I’ve been talking to her about taking maternity photos with peonies almost the entire time that we’ve known each other 🤭 so this session felt pretty special.

We met Brittany at Laughing Goat Flower Farm as close to afternoon Golden Hour as possible (the peony farm proprietor requested that we arrive no later than 5:30pm for our session). At our latitude in June Golden Hour is hours later than 5:30pm so this lighting was definitely a challenge for Brittany (who prefers to shoot in softer lighting to get the desired effect), but I think she really nailed the images!
Springtime weather in the Pacific Northwest is notoriously unpredictable — we had to reschedule this shoot twice due to rain. Finally, the stars aligned (during Pregnancy Week 35!) and we were blessed with the most gorgeous sunny day! There was barely a cloud in the sky and the peony field looked especially full and fluffy!
It was SO hard to choose which photos I wanted to include in this post and I know it will be even tougher to make decisions on which images to print out for framing in our home (which I can’t wait to do, by the way!)

Sophie had the absolute best time running between the rows, sniffing and admiring the beautiful blooms. I think we have another blossoming (😏) peony lover on our hands.

Sophie also spent a fair amount of time dancing and twirling in the little courtyard area because the farm has lots of great music playing over some nearby speakers — it was essentially a Bridgerton ball setting! It would be soooo lovely for an intimate wedding!

Brittany always recommends wearing tighter fitting dresses (as opposed to looser ones) for maternity photos to really show off the bump and I took that advice to heart! This Bianca dress by Bumpsuit was so comfortable to wear and I think it delivered on the body-hugging assignment.
Sophie wore a dress by my favorite baby / toddler / children’s brand (Jamie Kay) from a past season that I have been saving for this age. Because the dress is no longer available, I linked some similar styles below in the widget.
My husband wore a white button down, khakis and some Red Wing brown boots (I mostly encouraged the boot choice because of the nature of the terrain at the flower farm). His favorite clothing stores are from Filson and RRL by Ralph Lauren so those are where his pieces are from.

I’m dying over how this triple(!) exposure came out! So beautiful, Brittany!

I can’t believe we’re so close to meeting Baby Girl and completing our family! It feels so surreal.
Sending hugs —
xx, Natalie
