When our beloved family photographer announced this year that she was offering spring mini sessions (she suggested to have them taken for Mother’s Day) and I jumped at the opportunity!
I love documenting our family so it’s really nice to actually be able to be IN the photos (taken by a professional 😉).

I hope to make this an annual tradition for Mother’s Day. Every mother deserves to have herself captured with her children! In my experience as a stay-at-home mom having a photo session like this almost feels like official recognition for all of the hard work I do throughout the year. Obviously, getting to the photoshoot on time AND styled is a challenge in and of itself, but then you have no control over what’s going to happen at the actual photoshoot so you just hope that you can get them to look at the camera or even crack a smile for at least one or two photos!
Last year I wasn’t really up for taking photos for Mother’s Day as I was still very much in the thick of that first year of postpartum, but I’m so glad that I made an effort to have them taken this year!

The Washington Park Arboretum always has something lovely in bloom, but this time of year is when the cherry blossoms are on full display and the azaleas and rhododendron were just starting to emerge. It’s incredibly beautiful to see the park so full of flowers.

Even though we’ve worked with Brittany many times before, kids have especially short memories around this age so she was a bit apprehensive about both the camera and this “stranger”, but somehow we still ended up with these beautiful photos.
Brittany is truly magical — I’m always astonished that she can manage to get such great photos with the chaos going on… I’m already looking forward to next year’s photo session!
