I thought I’d write a quick post to share some of our recent toddler cold weather clothing purchases.
QWe live in a fairly mild climate in Seattle, meaning that it gets decently wet and cold here (but nothing too intense) and we needed pieces to keep our three-year-old warm and dry during the cooler months.
These are the items that I chose this year:

LINED RAIN REPELLENT COAT
I don’t know why I never thought to shop for toddler items at Zara before, but this coat is so perfect for our needs and totally fits the aesthetic. The rain repellent (not just resistant!) feature is the most crucial element, but a cozy lining is also important.
I’ve had a lot of luck finding this type of outerwear for toddlers at Gap / Gap Factory in past years (except they’re only water-resistant!) and planned to do the same again this year, but I was served an ad for this one at Zara and I couldn’t resist it! I have no regrets — it’s a great coat.
…

CORDUROY DRESS
Now, I know that this isn’t the warmest option, but corduroy is typically a fairly warm fabric and this style is pretty versatile so it can be paired (and layered with!) with lots of other items during the season. Sophie LOVES to wear dresses so this is a way that I can occasionally compromise with her (weather permitting).
Wear it over a long-sleeved henley / crewneck tee / turtleneck / thin pullover sweater, layer with a jacket / cardigan and pair with tights (fleece-lined if it’s hella cold) / knee high socks / ruffle ankle socks and boots / Mary-Janes / sneakers! Truly a versatile piece of clothing.
This is probably an autumn-only garment for most, but sometimes we have some slightly warmer days peppered into our winter forecast that would be perfect for this little dress.

FLEECE-LINED LEGGINGS
This was probably one of the toughest items for me to source in a style that fits our aesthetic. I’m fine with using neutral solids as well, but those were also hard to come by this year (most had weird prints, knee patch shapes, etc). We’re not a brightly-colored, sparkly unicorn kind of family, so I had my work cut out for me trying to find something that would work with the rest of Sophie’s wardrobe. Thankfully, Carter’s came through with a cute (and affordable!) set of two leggings that are going to be perfect.
…

WATERPROOF BOOTS
I’m crazy about these boots: the prints, the cozy warm lining, and the drawstring at the top to keep unwanted moisture / temperature out!
We ordered a pair of the brand’s waterproof mittens as well if you happen to be in the market for those too.
…

WASHABLE MERINO WOOL BASE LAYER
We have used these as pajamas in the winter for the past three years and they’re so effective. The fact that they’re merino wool and machine washable is absolutely unreal and our favorite reason to shop the brand. We usually order two pairs at a time (one to wear and one to spare) — we like the pink and sage green colors best!
They also sell socks that we love for wearing both to bed / in boots. They’re fairly slippery so we tend not to wear them around the house because toddlers only want to move at the speed of light.

Forever in search of pieces where function-meets-fashion!
Sending hugs —
xx, Natalie
