Hey, friends!
Our summer has been super fun, but I’m SO ready for autumn weather and back-to-school! I think most people would have summer last forever, but I’m grateful for the season change. I’ve already swapped out the decor in our home and am READY to embrace the new season — anyone else?
Today’s Five Things are items that have piqued my interest or things that have been on my mind / going on in my life recently!

“Smoke” TV Show
This show isn’t something I would typically choose to watch, but my husband heard good things about it so we decided to watch it together. The premise is pretty compelling, even if the writing / acting isn’t always stellar.
The main character is an ex-firefighter turned arson investigator who is paired up with a local police officer to find two arsonists in the area. The storyline is apparently based on the true crime podcast “Firebug” and I’ll freely admit that the psychological element of the show is fascinating (and terrifying).
It’s definitely worth a watch if you’re looking for a new tv show.

“THE LIFE OF A SHOWGIRL”
Ahhhhhhh! Taylor Swift is releasing a new album!
I’m beside myself with excitement… ever since The Eras Tour came to a close I’ve been craving new music! I’m eagerly anticipating listening to the new bops (which I’m certain are largely inspired by her relationship with her boyfriend Travis).
Her recent interview on the New Heights podcast (when she announced her upcoming album) was so much fun — it was so nice to see a little glimpse into her life and she was able to be herself for the interview since it was fully on her own terms. I absolutely loved watching it and will probably re-watch it a hundred more times.

3-Ingredient Cloud Dough
As part of a recent preschooler activity we made cloud dough and it turned out so well! It’s super easy (only three ingredients, which are [technically] taste-safe!) and it’s so fun to play with — the scent is an added bonus!
If you missed it, you can find our post about it here.

PRINCESS CHARACTER BIRTHDAY
Our friends recently hired a princess for their daughter’s birthday party and it was SO MUCH FUN. The birthday girl wanted a Frozen party themed so “Elsa” came over to play and she did such a fantastic job.
She was so sweet and handled the girls all so well — she did a great job not only staying in character the entire time, but she was wonderful with all activities… face painting, leading the girls in some fun movement / pretend play, reading them a story, and even performing “Show Yourself” from the Frozen 2 movie with the girls. Honestly, it was almost a Disney park level type of experience.
All of the girls were enraptured and having the performer there really took all of the work out of having to plan activities for the party-goers… a win/win for everyone! If our girls ever want a Disney Princess themed birthday, I will FOR SURE be hiring a character from Painted Palace Princesses — if you’re local to Seattle I can’t recommend it more!

WEIGHTED VEST
I recently hopped on the weighted vest train. I don’t know how much good it’s actually going to do, but I figured it can’t hurt to at least try it out.
It’s no secret that I’m not in my best shape these days, but with two small children (and no childcare!) it’s so hard to find the time to take a shower, much less time to work out! I’m going to try to find ways to incorporate more movement into my day, even if it’s not an organized workout because this lack of exercise just isn’t sustainable for a healthy lifestyle — and I’ve got two babies to raise!
According to this Harvard article: Wearing a weighted vest helps in “building muscle strength and bone density; improving the heart’s pumping ability; expanding lung capacity; burning more calories; and enhancing core strength, which involves abdominal and back muscles.”

In other news: Sophie finally put her face in the water during swim lessons!! We’re so proud of our little fishy!
I hope you made it through August with ease, friends!
Sending hugs —
