I wanted a festive and easy cookie recipe to bake with Sophie and when I stumbled upon this Cookie Recipe I knew it was a winner! No special ingredients / methods, no chilling required, but the M&M candy was a fun addition. This recipe is super simple, made with classic cookie ingredients that everyone will likely have in their pantry / fridge.
Sophie has never had M&Ms until today and I’m happy to report that she’s a fan (just wait until she can have peanut M&M’s! 😂). I found this bag of seasonally colored M&M’s on a recent grocery trip and knew I had to bring them home for some fun with Sophie. This recipe totally fit the bill!
Since this recipe was so easy, we’ll probably be making a batch of these with festive colored M&M’s for every holiday going forward.

When I’m baking with my toddler I like to pre-measure everything out ahead of time (I used the other “shot glass” in the photo for the vanilla and the third working glass for the eggs) so that she can easily dump things into the bowl. While that method makes for a lot of extra dishes on the back end, it saves my sanity while trying to manage things in the moment.

Now that Sophie is three, she’s a lot more dexterous, understands instructions and is at the age where she is craving more independence / has a desire to “help” (😉) so this was a really fun activity to do together. I highly recommend baking a simple cookie recipe with your littles at a similar age (especially on days when you’re cooped up inside due to inclement weather).

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 375°F.
I use parchment paper for lining my baking sheets to make for easier transfers to cooling racks and minimizing the mess for clean up.
Cream the butter, sugars, and vanilla.
Add in the eggs and beat well.
Add flour, baking soda, and salt.
Mix until dough forms.
Fold in M&Ms.
Use a medium scoop to make dough balls (I spaced mine about 2in apart).
Bake for 8-10 minutes.
Remove from baking sheet and place on cooling rack.
Once cooled, enjoy!

My Kitchenaid stand mixer is truly one of my most beloved kitchen appliances, third in line after my Breville toaster oven / air fryer and my Vitamix blender.

While this recipe is incredibly simple and a very straightforward recipe, that’s usually all I’m looking for, especially when baking with littles. The seasonal M&M candies are the perfect little festive fun feature. Enjoy, friends!
