I know the title may seem like an exaggeration, but I stand by the statement as I am truly in love with this piece of clothing. It is hands-down the most comfortable article of clothing that I own, especially for pregnancy. Most days I just don’t want to wear anything with a waistband (no matter how stretchy!) and sometimes dresses just aren’t possible so this is my favorite alternative.
I don’t exactly know what to call them because “bodysuits” are usually just tops that give the illusion of being tucked in (and snap in the crotch)… being that it’s form-hugging, is it considered a “catsuit”? Some brands call their version a “jumpsuit”, but that’s definitely not what I think of when I hear the word jumpsuit. I think I’m going to use the term “unitard” in this post because I think that’s the best descriptor of all the options.
That said, I think the term “Bumpsuit” feels like the perfect way to describe this piece and it’s so appropriately named for the brand that really seems to have popularized this type of product. I am OBSESSED with my Bumpsuits (I bought two so that I always have a clean one to wear!) and would argue that even though they’re pricey, they’re the superior option on the market (and I think they’re pretty much the OG of this type of clothing — if they didn’t invent it, they’ve certainly perfected it).
Bumpsuit offers a variety of colors and style options. I explain what option I ordered (and why) in the next section, but I enjoy seeing all of the different ways that other mamas style their Bumpsuits (featured both on the website models as well as shared on the brand’s social channels).
Honorable mention: I find the form-fitting Bumpsuit dress options to be so lovely — they would make great additions to your pregnancy wardrobe, especially for maternity photos or even for a baby shower! I personally wouldn’t get much use out of them in my daily life (they’re not the most conducive to household chores or chasing a toddler around 😜), but I think they’re definitely worth checking out if dresses are more to your taste!

HOW I WEAR IT
Honestly, this unitard is a pretty universal piece for your wardrobe. I chose one of their most popular styles (the “Kate”) because I liked the neckline and I wanted to be able to layer it under things and not get overheated (anyone else struggle with excessive sweating?). The quality is wonderful — it’s made with four-way stretch fabric which is double lined for extra support! That entire sentence makes this expecting mama so happy; all of those words are music to my ears. 🤣 The material gently hugs your body and feels supportive enough, but doesn’t give any compression (at least not at my current bump size).
I selected the color black because I knew that would be the most versatile for my wardrobe, but with all of the options I’m certain that you will find one that suits your personal style and preferences. I also chose the classic brushed jersey fabric (read: not ribbed) because even though I love a ribbed material moment, that feels decidedly more casual and I wanted the option to be able to elevate my Bumpsuit a little bit if I needed to!
Lastly, I ordered my usual pre-pregnancy size and I find that the unitard fits very comfortably and is true-to-size (but there is still plenty of room to expand as my body grows).
STYLING IDEAS

In most applications I just substitute the Bumpsuit for a pair of leggings. It looks great with a tunic top, a poncho, a pullover sweater or even paired with a button-down shirt. Mix and match your shoes and other accessories to create a variety of looks with the same few pieces!

As my belly grows and I look even more pregnant I think it’s fun to pair the Bumpsuit with an open layer like a denim jacket, chambray shirt, blazer, coatigan, chunky cardigan, a shawl / wrap, or even a sweater lady jacket (as seen in my photo above).

I don’t know how much this unitard will stay in my rotation when I reach peak belly during the warmer months, but I think that it would look really chic with a pair of stylish sandals and an open front button-down shirt or a short sleeved t-shirt knotted above the bump!
This piece is something you can absolutely wear even into postpartum life (but it’s somehow so much cuter when you’re rocking a bump 🥹🥰).

UNDERGARMENTS
There isn’t a shelf bra in this unitard so your bra options are entirely up to you. I’ve honestly just been wearing a sports bra for support, but it’s totally dealer’s choice. You don’t even necessarily *need* a bra, but I personally don’t have the most lift in my breast tissue anymore so I need some help in the lift and support departments. If I’m not in need of quite so much support, I like to wear a black bandeau bra underneath.
As far as the underwear situation goes, I’d highly recommend either a seamless pair or a support pair.

I’ll be sharing another resource coming very soon with even more tips for styling yourself with a bump and curating a small maternity wardrobe (you don’t need a FULL revamp, just a few comfortable, versatile pieces that will carry you through this chapter).

I hope this maternity unitard review helps you to make a decision that allows you to feel comfortable and stylish throughout your pregnancy.
Sending you the biggest hugs!
