It’s that time, friends! My favorite season (both in regard to weather and interior decorating) has arrived! If you’ve been here for a while you already know that I prefer subtle touches that don’t detract from my existing year-round home decor. It’s all about making easy additions (or swaps) that work for your style and your space.
This post is geared mostly toward the general harvest season and Thanksgiving, but I enjoy decorating for a minimalist Halloween as well.
OUTDOOR
FRONT DOOR WREATH
I LOVE a front door wreath. It gives great curb appeal and provides a festive first impression upon entering your home. If there is only one thing you swap out throughout the year, I think it should be a wreath because they are just so festive and everyone has a front door, even if it’s inside an apartment building! If you have space above a bench in your entryway, a side table, or even above a bar cart, these are other great places to swap out an art piece with an indoor wreath or a decorative wall hanging.
I’m actually using my favorite autumn outdoor wreath from a previous year that will stay on the front door for the whole season. I was so excited to see that they brought it back again this year! I’ve also found a variety of similar options at other retailers which I’ve linked below:
…
If you’re looking for a wreath hook, this is the one that we use for our front door. Since the door is larger in size, I needed an extended length wreath hook and this one works perfectly! I also always hang the wreath directly on the hook as opposed to using the loop provided on the back of the wreath; I personally think this gives it more stability and a better look.
When my two seasonal wreaths are not in use, I keep them in this plastic storage bag and it’s the perfect size. It’s really only during the winter season that both items live in this storage bag (since we always get a real evergreen wreath), otherwise one of the wreaths is on the front door. That being said, they both fit comfortably and I could even fit a few more in there if I wanted to (don’t tell my husband — haha)! I love that it’s clear, the zipper goes all the way around, and that it has handles; I highly recommend it for storing your seasonal wreaths, (especially if they are stuffed into a closet) to protect both your garments and your wreaths!

PLANTER FILLER
In my opinion, the front porch is really a highlight of the autumn season, so incorporating some fun seasonal elements to add to your curb appeal is highly encouraged. I love the look of a mix of different sized hurricane lanterns, real and faux pumpkins, as well as some seasonal potted florals (in this case of this season, chrysanthemums!). If you have the space or some columns leading up to your front door I think that dried corn stalks are such a fun, festive addition!
We also like the look of planters on our front porch and while I typically keep some faux evergreen plants in there for 3/4 of the year, I really enjoy replacing them with something for fall. These are the faux wheat plants that I put into my planters, but there are so many other options!
You can obviously plant real flowers or plants in them, but if, like me, you don’t have a green thumb there are plenty of pretty faux alternatives.
INDOOR
TABLETOPS
I try to choose mostly “evergreen” pieces of decor that work all year-round and then add to the space with festive, seasonal elements to celebrate the seasons. Neutral art (and frames!), vases, magazines / books, etc. are out all year long and I just replace decorative elements depending on the season! For autumn, these items are out for the entire season and then I adjust even further between Halloween in October and Thanksgiving in November.
…
I try to be thoughtful about the pieces that I select so that they all work together no matter what season we’re in or the holiday we’re celebrating within the season!
…
COUNTERTOPS
I really enjoy having a little festive touch on the kitchen island as well. Usually just a seasonal candle accompanied by one or two small decor elements on a tray help to make the space feel extra cozy.
…
In addition to adding a festive touch to our home, I enjoy decor in spaces that also disguise the more functional devices throughout our house. While these decorative items rarely cover the devices completely, they can at least distract / redirect the eye from these items being more obvious eyesores.

DINING TABLE
I use these woven chargers and neutral table runner year-round; I just change out the napkins and centerpieces. For autumn, I’m obsessed with these floral print chocolate-colored napkins! As a centerpiece I just evenly distribute some pumpkins and candles — super simple. For Thanksgiving I add my beloved turkey made of natural materials.
Sending lots of hugs (and pumpkin spice! 😉) —
xx, Natalie
